Dr. Xiaofang (Bethanie) Wang Lanterman, Ph.D., LCMFT

Bilingual Mandarin–English Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
Psychotherapy · Immigration Psychological Evaluations · Federal Research & Program Evaluation Consulting

I provide trauma-informed psychotherapy and comprehensive immigration psychological evaluations (VAWA, extreme hardship waivers, asylum, T visa, and U visa cases), along with federal research and program evaluation consulting. My work is grounded in clinical rigor, cultural humility, and evidence-based practice.

MY STORY AND APPROACH

For Therapy & Immigration Clients

My professional journey bridges two continents and multiple disciplines—integrating education, family science, and clinical practice. I earned my B.A. in Education and M.Ed. in Parenting Education in China before completing my Ph.D. in Family Science and M.S. in Couple & Family Therapy in the United States.

This bicultural foundation shapes how I understand and support individuals, couples, and families navigating complex cultural identities, family dynamics, immigration stress, and life transitions.

As an immigrant in an intercultural marriage, I personally understand the challenges of bridging different worlds. I know what it means to balance cultural expectations, communicate across differences, and build a life that honors multiple identities.

This lived experience—combined with advanced clinical training and research expertise—allows me to provide care that is both clinically rigorous and deeply attuned.

I work from an evidence-based, trauma-informed framework and am trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, Somatic Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Gottman-informed approaches. My goal is not only symptom relief, but sustainable emotional healing and relational growth.

Whether you are healing from trauma, strengthening your relationship, supporting your family through transition, or navigating the immigration process, I bring the full depth of my training, cultural understanding, and clinical experience to walk alongside you.

At the heart of my work is the belief that healing happens in relationships where people feel deeply seen, understood, and respected.

For Institutional & Government Partners

Prior to entering full-time clinical practice, I spent nearly a decade in federal research and program evaluation, collaborating with agencies including the Veterans Health Administration, Administration for Children and Families, Department of Defense, and the National Center for Education Statistics.

My work included large-scale survey research, program evaluation, quantitative data analysis, and technical reporting that informed policy, funding decisions, and service delivery systems. I bring a strong foundation in research methodology, data integrity, implementation science, and outcome evaluation.

In addition to my federal research experience, I have taught parenting, research methods, and psychology at the university level. This academic background strengthens my ability to translate complex data and clinical concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.

Today, my consulting work integrates research rigor with clinical insight—supporting agencies, organizations, and institutions in designing evaluations, analyzing outcomes, and developing evidence-informed programs that promote measurable impact.
